Emergency Contraception - future use

Your details

Please provide us with accurate details as our prescriber might need to access your GP record and you are consented to access your Summary Care Record (SCR). This is necessary for the safe and best treatment of your conditions.

Contraception

The answers you provide to the questions will be reviewed by a UK registered prescriber to help us better understand and treat your condition. All information will be handled with the utmost discretion and confidentiality, so please be honest with your answers, including any current medication you are on.

The morning after pill can be affected by your weight. If your BMI is over 26, or your weight is more than 70kg (11st) then levonorgestrel (Levonelle) may be less effective, and EllaOne may be more effective. If your BMI is over 30, or your weight is more then 85kg (13st) then EllaOne may not be able to work as well. In this case a better option would be the copper coil, which you can discuss with your GP or sexual health clinic.
If you have given birth within the last 21 days, your chances of getting pregnant are minimal and you don't need emergency contraception. This doesn't include terminations, abortions or miscarriages.

Dear ,

If you are breastfeeding, EllaOne can be used but as it can get into the breastmilk it's advised that you do not breastfeed for 7 days and you should express and discard your breastmilk in that time and use an alternative feed for your baby. If you are in the time frame to use levonorgestrel (Levonelle) then this may be the preferred choice as this can be used safely and you can continue to breastfeed.
