Mounjaro Private Weight Loss Injections

Achieve your weight loss goals with Mounjaro weight loss injections – a private weight management service offered by our pharmacist-led clinic in Gorleston, Great Yarmouth. Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a groundbreaking GLP-1 therapy injection that’s helping patients shed significant weight safely and effectively. Our service is based in Gorleston and run by an experienced pharmacist prescriber, ensuring you receive expert guidance every step of the way. All consultations are done face-to-face or via secure video, in line with General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) guidance – we do not provide form-only online consultations, so you can be confident in the thoroughness and safety of our approach.

The steroid medication used in the injection is typically a synthetic version of cortisol, a hormone produced by the body’s adrenal glands that helps to regulate inflammation and immune function. When injected into the body, the steroid medication helps to reduce inflammation and alleviate the symptoms of hay fever by suppressing the immune system’s response to allergens.

What is Mounjaro (Tirzepatide)?

Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a weekly injection originally licensed for type 2 diabetes. It is now used off-label for weight loss in adults with obesity or overweight plus weight-related health conditions. Mounjaro mimics two hormones (GLP-1 and GIP) to reduce appetite, slow digestion, improve insulin sensitivity, and support weight loss.

Consultation Process (GPhC-Compliant)

  1. Book a face-to-face or secure video consultation

  2. Comprehensive health check including BMI, medical history and goals

  3. If suitable, tirzepatide is prescribed and training on self-injection is given

  4. You receive your medication with full instructions and sharps bin

  5. Monthly review appointments to assess progress, adjust dosage and reorder

Treatment Plan: Dose Initiation and Escalation

Mounjaro requires a structured dose titration schedule to optimise weight loss outcomes while minimising side effects. The pharmacist prescriber will implement a stepwise increase in dose over the first several months of therapy. Below we outline the standard dosing plan for tirzepatide in weight management, as well as how to handle dose adjustments in practice.

Dose Initiation:
All patients start on the lowest dose of 2.5 mg once weekly.

This starter dose is primarily to allow the body to begin adjusting to the medication’s effects.

Note: 2.5 mg is a sub-therapeutic dose for weight loss (it’s not expected to cause much weight reduction on its own), but it is critical for tolerability. Most side effects, especially gastrointestinal ones, occur as the dose increases. Starting low helps patients cope with any nausea or GI upset.

Dose Escalation Schedule:
The dose is increased in 2.5 mg increments at minimum 4-week intervals. A typical titration schedule is as follows:

Treatment WeeksDose (tirzepatide)
Weeks 1 – 42.5 mg once weekly (starter dose)
Weeks 5 – 85 mg once weekly
Weeks 9 – 127.5 mg once weekly
Weeks 13 – 1610 mg once weekly
Weeks 17 – 2012.5 mg once weekly
Week 21 onward15 mg once weekly (max maintenance dose)

This gradual escalation is essential to patient safety – each dose level is maintained for about 4 weeks before going up, ensuring the patient can cope with any side effects and that adverse reactions are manageable. By week 21, if all has gone well, the patient will reach the full dose of 15 mg weekly, which is the highest licensed dose for weight management.

Ongoing Support

  • Monthly clinical review

  • Dose escalation if needed

  • Repeat prescriptions

  • Lifestyle and nutrition guidance

  • Ongoing clinician access via phone/email

More about Mounjaro

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is MHRA-approved in the UK for managing obesity in adults with:

  • A BMI ≥30 (classified as obese), or

  • A BMI between 27–30 with weight-related health conditions (e.g. type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, or sleep apnoea).

It works by mimicking two gut hormones (GLP-1 and GIP) that regulate appetite and insulin, helping to reduce hunger, slow stomach emptying, and support weight loss.

It’s prescribed as a once-weekly injection, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) has shown significant weight loss results in clinical trials:

  • Average weight loss of up to 22.5% of body weight over 72 weeks at the highest dose (15mg weekly), depending on starting weight and adherence.

  • Greater weight loss than semaglutide (Wegovy) in head-to-head studies.

  • Effective even in patients without type 2 diabetes, purely for obesity treatment.

Weight loss begins within weeks, with most results seen over 6–12 months.

Mounjaro weight loss injection effectiveness

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) works by mimicking two naturally occurring hormones:

1. GLP-1 (Glucagon-Like Peptide-1)

  • Slows down stomach emptying → keeps you feeling full longer

  • Reduces appetite and food cravings

  • Enhances insulin release after meals

  • Lowers blood sugar

2. GIP (Glucose-Dependent Insulinotropic Polypeptide)

  • Also promotes insulin release

  • Enhances the effects of GLP-1

  • May improve fat metabolism

Together, these effects result in:

  • Reduced hunger

  • Smaller portion sizes

  • Gradual and sustained weight loss

  • Better blood sugar control in those with type 2 diabetes

It is given as a once-weekly injection, usually in increasing doses over time.

How to Inject Mounjaro – Step by Step

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.

  2. Check the injection pen to ensure it’s not expired, damaged, and the liquid appears clear.

  3. Attach a new needle to the pen securely.

  4. Slowly turn the dose knob until you hear two clicks.

  5. Prime the pen by releasing a small amount to remove air bubbles and confirm it’s working.

  6. Set the dosage to ‘1’.

  7. Insert the needle into your chosen injection site, press down the dose knob, and count slowly to five.

  8. Remove the needle and check that the dose counter has returned to ‘0’.

  9. Safely remove the needle and recap the pen.

  10. Aim to take your injection at the same time each week for consistent results—choose a day and time that works best for you.
