What are naproxen tablets used for?

Naproxen tablets are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). They reduce inflammation (swelling) and pain in joints and muscles.

Naproxen tablets are used for the treatment of
• Rheumatoid arthritis (an autoimmune and inflammatory disease)

How does Naproxen work?

Dosage and Usage:

Naproxen tablets are available in two strengths: 250mg and 500mg. The dosage and frequency of administration depend on the individual’s condition and age. It is usually taken with water, preferably with food or after meals, to minimize stomach discomfort.

Pain and Inflammation in Rheumatic Disease:

  • Adults: The recommended dosage is 500mg twice daily.

Pain and Inflammation in Musculoskeletal Disorders and Dysmenorrhoea:

  • Adults: Begin with an initial dose of 500mg, followed by 250mg every 6–8 hours as needed. The maximum daily dose after the first day should not exceed 1.25g.

Acute Gout:

  • Adults: Start with an initial dose of 750mg, followed by 250mg every 8 hours until the gout attack has subsided.

It’s crucial to adhere closely to these dosage recommendations and consult a healthcare professional for personalised advice and adjustments based on individual factors such as age, weight, medical history, and response to treatment.
